happy taxi-man

MaclarenThe Maclaren (pram) got left in a taxi last night. They’re sooo much better than what’s available around here. The taxi driver’s going to either be the proudest pram pushing dad in Cusco, or will be about 150 taxi journeys better off! I’ll be keeping a sharp eye out for it in the coming months! We loved our Maclaren :(

Luckily, Cécile’s mum’s coming to visit on Monday so an upgrade is on its way!

The photo is from just before we moved to Peru.

How to fix scratched CDs

I discovered this years ago and decided it was time to share the tip:

CDs or DVDs with scratches can be easily fixed by polishing with Brasso metal polish or T-Cut car polish. Both these are fine abrasives and will wear away scratches but leave the plastic as smooth as before.

How’s that for a non-Arnaud post!

Magisterio

Our house in magisterioJust a quick update: I’ve uploaded some photos of Magisterio (where we live) to ruin the surprise for the visitors. Looking forward to seeing everyone! :-)

The big brown house in the photo here is our place.

Also, I decided to actually pay for my Flickr account at last so I’m not restricted to the 3 set limit. So you can now go back and see Arnaud again when he was tiny (although I’m sure only the grandparents will be interested in that!) The Flickr upgrade cost me a whole 12 quid so please feel free to make a donation via the ‘Donate’ button on the left! Go on, try it.

Wayquecha pics

Weekend in Wayquecha with the CBC team - Cécile was interviewed about her work and the impending doom of the cloud forest, and Arnaud chased butterflies.

Jungle and Wayquecha photos. Amazingly, I failed to get a single shot of Arnaud in the jungle, so here’s a movie of him swaying to a train.

Arnaud’s first curry (or ‘Ooops!’)

(not the actual camote soup)Cécile’s in the jungle this week, so we decided on Sunday to go for a nice lunch in one of our favourite restaurants here for a power building steak. Arnaud’s teeth aren’t quite up to steak yet though so we ordered him an innocuous looking camote soup (sweet potato). The food arrived, all tasted lovely, especially Arnaud’s dish which had a hint of something we couldn’t quite work out. Arnaud loved it. He hadn’t had his usual huge portion of porridge for breakfast and was obviously still hungry. About half way through, I had another taste and worked out the spice - curry. Not a tricky flavour to distinguish, but it was very subtle. Surely subtle enough for Arnaud’s strong Peruvian stomach to handle!.. or so we thought!

A few hours later enjoying a Guinness in the Irish pub, all were merry, until the inevitable happened. Arnaud’s first curry poo! It hurt a lot, he cried a lot, and his poor little red bum is only just recovering now. Sorry Arnaud! We didn’t know. It didn’t tell us in the baby manual not to give babies curry! We’ll know better next time though - and warning to all those out there who didn’t know.

ps The photo isn’t the actual soup.
